Minutes - Archives November 18, 2002
The semi annual Drummond Village meeting was held on November 18, 2002 at the Somerset Town Hall. Mayor Cathy Sulzberger called the meeting to order at 7:35 pm. There was a motion made and seconded to approve the minutes of the spring meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
Michael Cicero gave the Treasurer’s report, stating that the Village was in sound financial condition.
Angela Lancaster from the Chevy Chase Historical Society gave a presentation to the group about the Society’s work and its new home. She stated that the group had a goal to raise $350,000 to renovate space and catalog all of their material. At the time of the meeting the Society had raised $267,000 and they asked for a contribution of $5000. Discussion ensued and Elliot Carroll made a motion to donate $1000 at this time with an annual gift to follow. Lee Barlow seconded the motion. There was further discussion and the motion was adopted unanimously.
There was then a discussion about the streetlights and the need to improve the lighting on Drummond Avenue. Ari Antonelli suggested that we may want to investigate putting up historical lights in keeping with the character of the street. Rosalie Kessler suggested that we have a lighting designer come and meet with a small committee to discuss the matter and report back to the group. A motion was made and seconded and unanimously approved to form such a committee. The committee appointed consisted of Rosalie, Ari, Zoe Ambargis and Steve Schwat.
The next item was an update on the Somerset School construction. There was concern about the use of heavy trucks coming onto Drummond during construction. Steve Schwat suggested that Michael Cicero contact Norman Knopf about our rights and to relay our concerns to the appropriate authorities.
The next item was the need for a new pole to chain off the alley between Drummond and Cumberland during school hours. Steve Katzki moved and there was a second to expend such sums as necessary to put in place an aesthetically pleasing new pole and chain.
The next item was mosquito control specifically with regard to West Nile Virus. Michael Cicero agreed to form a committee to look into what can be done with regard to protecting the residents and Matt Gandel agreed to serve on the committee with Michael and report back.
Steve Katzki gave the tree committee report stating that five trees will be planted in the spring (Red Maple) and another spring pruning will be done. Also, two diseased trees were recently removed.
Steve Schwat then updated the group on the efforts of the FHCCC to protect the Green Mile. Steve reported that Howard Denis’s bill passed limiting home occupation permit parking. The new law limits one care per patron or per employee for “no impact” and to three cars for “low impact” as defined in the legislation.
There was then a discussion about the need for sidewalk and street repair. A number of driveway aprons and sidewalks are heaving and in need of repair. Steve Katzki made a motion, seconded by Elliot Carroll to allow the Mayor to an estimate on sidewalk and street aprons repairs and to come back to the Village with an estimate. The motion was approved.
Elliot Carroll brought up the topic of alley improvement behind his property in Chevy Chase West. Michael Cicero agreed to follow up with Washington Sewer to look into the matter.
Ari Antonelli agreed to begin work prior to the next meeting on a block party to be held sometime in 2003.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45 pm. |
