Minutes - Archives November 24, 2003
Mayor Dan Smith called the meeting to order at 8:05 pm. A motion to approve the minutes of the April 2003 meeting was approved unanimously.
Treasurer Michael Cicero gave the Treasurer’s report. He noted that the checking account had a current balance of $6,500 and that the money market had $323,000.
The next item discussed was sidewalk repair. Adam Strickberger reported on 2 sidewalk bids: Currey General and NZI construction. They varied significantly. Debbie Strickberger volunteered to be the point person and identify the areas that needed the most work. A motion was approved that if the repairs exceeded $10,000 we would bring it back to the next meeting.
Next Michael Cicero gave an update about the construction progress at Somerset School. He said that they were on schedule. He reported on the letter regarding property boundaries. Ultimately it was resolved.
Ari Antonelli gave a brief recap of the block party. We will revisit the discussion at the next meeting on whether to make it an annual tradition.
Next, there was a mosquito update. Matt Gandal reported that is was an experiment. The question was asked, “Did it work?” Michael Cicero said it was effective but not effective enough to purchase them for the village. It was proposed that we have a silent auction to recoup some of the cost of the machines. Matt Gandal motioned that we auction them of fin a fair way. The bid has to be 50% of the original purchase price otherwise we use them another year. It was approved unanimously. It was also suggested that we send out a note to remind neighbors to me mindful of still water.
Talking about water, Dan Smith brought up the issue of the water that sits in the alley between Drummond and Hunt. David Antonelli has done research and talked to West Chevy Chase and they would be willing to split the cost of repair. It was approved to spend up to $2,000 to fix the situation.
Dan Smith reported on the signs. Signs have been replaced and we are still waiting for some to be fixed.
A discussion about the purchase of generators was raised. It was agreed that research need to be done. Matt Gandal and Dan Smith agreed to investigate.
Steve Katzki gave the tree report. He said it was a bad fall for trees.
Adam Strickberger raised the issue of speeding on Drummond. He proposed more speed bumps but it was decided that that was not the solution. It was decided to send a letter to the whole street addressing the speeding issue and reminding neighbors that there are a lot of young kids on the street and to drive responsible and if they don’t obey the speed limit stronger action (i.e., speed bumps) might be taken.
A discussion of streetlights occurred. People are concerned that the street is very dark at night It was suggested that a notice go out asking people to keep their porch lights on at night until further notice. A committee was formed, Steve Katzki, Scott Kragie, Michael Cicero, and Peter Hoagland to investigate lanterns.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 pm.
