Minutes - Archives November 8, 2004
Mayor Michael Cicero called the meeting at 8:05p and welcomed everyone and asked if everyone could take a look at the minutes from the last meeting. Jane Highsaw suggested that we pass out the minutes prior to the meeting so everyone would have a chance to review before coming to the meeting. A motion to approve the minutes from the April 26, 2004 meeting was approved unanimously.
Treasurer Matt Gandal handed out the treasury report. It was noted that we brought in more money than was spent; however, the sidewalk repairs ($41,000) were not reflected in the balance.
Old business was reviewed:
Leaf removal and snow removal – continue for this winter with a snow contract with The Wray Brothers.
Sidewalk update – complete
Renovation of Somerset Elementary – Nothing new to report.
Block Party – It was voted that we should continue the tradition of a block party and we agreed to discuss details about date and time at the next meeting.
Drain Repair – It was discussed that Ari Antonelli would follow-up with Chevy Chase West about improving the system.
Tree Repair – Steve Katzki reported on the trees that needed to come down – The Smith, Sherman, and Tibbots home. That they are watching trees around the Davenports, Sulzberger, Scribner and Hamiltons.
Street Lights – Committee will meet and come back with a proposal.
New Residents letter – It was agreed that new resident letter will be sent to everyone in community for comments.
Emergency Contact – People at the meeting updated the current directory with emergency contacts.
New business was discussed next.
Lisa Schwat suggested we make additional charitable contributions with our surplus. We agreed that we are open to a proposal and that we should be proactive in giving. Lisa Schwat and Matt Gandal will form a committee to discuss charitable donations and policy and propose a recommendation at the next meeting.
It was also suggested that we think of ways to invest our surplus.
Gayley Knight and Gail Warner, guests of the meeting, were there to discuss the possibility of a Drummond Website. This website would provide useful information to the village, i.e., building codes, resources telephone numbers, etc. They said that it would cost less than $800 to create it and approximately $400-$500 to maintain on an annual basis. It was suggested that it be password protected. Also Gayley and Gail would be responsible for updating the information based on information provided by the Village. It was voted to approve establishing a Village of Drummond website.
Next new business topic was building codes. A committee was set up to examine our legal rights regarding building codes on Drummond. Dan Smith, Michael Cicero, Punch Wray, Edward Luttwak, David Antonelli, and Jon Ginns agreed to be on the committee. At this time, we approved expenditure of funds for an attorney.
Somerset Pool – Approved continuing to look into possibility of Drummond membership of Somerset Pool.
Memorials – We discussed looking into planting trees in the community in memory of residents. We agreed to look into planting/donating a tree to the Somerset School in memory of Elliott Carroll.
The meeting was adjourned at 10PM
